Using File Manager


CPanel Tutorials

  • You may prefer to manage the files in your site using an FTP program like CuteFTP,WS_FTP.Alternatively you can use our web-based File manager.
  • Log in to your domain contol panel or cPanel.
  • Click on the link'File Manager' below the file manager icon.
  • Your files will be in public_html directory.
  • Click on the folder icons to access the directory contents.
  • First let's see how to create a new folder (Directory).To make a new directory click on the link'Create New Folder'.
  • You will get a panel on right hand side under the header 'Create a folder' .Enter the name of new folder e.g.photos in the text box and click 'Create' button.
  • As you can see a new folder or directory named photos is created.
  • Clicking on the actual name e,g. photos will display the properties and options for the specific directory or file.
  • You will see the options available for managing this directory on the upper right hand side.
  • Let's take a look now at how to upload a file.We will upload a file to the folder cgi_bin.
  • Click on the folder cgi_bin and then click on the link "Upload file(s)" .
  • Browse your hard drive for the files you want to upload,selet the file and click "Open" button.You can upload as many files as you want by repeating this process.
  • If the files are already exixt in the site and you wish to upload an updated version,click to overwrite the existing file in "existing file" check box.
  • Click "Upload".
  • You will see your file is uploaded.At this point you can edit the file or modify its properties.
  • To edit the file,click on the file when you will see all the options for this file in upper right hand side.Click "edit"link.You can edit the file directly on the server.There is no need to download it first.
  • File manager displays the file permissions for all files and directories.Some files require special permissions to run properly.Let's see how that is done.
  • Click on "Change Permission" link.Files with .cgi extension commonly require a permission of 755.You can either enter the number manually or check the boxes that apply to the permissions you would like to grant.
  • Thats all.Now You will be able to manage files by web basedfile manager .
